Innovations in laser technology and beam delivery provide a solution to common challenges with laser welding including welding reflective materials (e.g. copper), dissimilar metals, thin-gauge foils, and poorly matched-up parts. Fiber lasers have an increased range of beam characteristics, wavelengths, laser powers and pulse durations. These technologies along with wobble welding techniques improve the weld quality of highly reflective metals. Introducing inline coherent imaging (ICI) will provide real-time information about the welding process, giving manufacturers more control over quality.
